Entering the Classroom
As soon as you enter the classroom, you are expected to get materials from your bag that you will need for the day. These items include: your planner, your composition book, a pen, and a pencil. You will NOT need anything else for class. The rest of your stuff should be placed inside your bag, and your bag should be placed on the back of your chair or on the floor. Once seated, open your composition book to the next blank set of pages (these will be indicated on the front board). Label your pages for the day, copy down your key question, respond to the question, and copy down any assignments in both your composition book and your planner. Students who enter the classroom late should do so quietly and without causing any disturbances – tardy students must sign in on the clipboard near the door, and late students must put their pass on my desk. Students who do not enter the classroom properly will be asked to leave the room and reenter as expected.
Leaving the Classroom
The bell does not dismiss the class, I do. Do not pack up or leave your seats until I dismiss the class. You must wait patiently at the door to have me check your planner. You must have something written in your planner each day! I will stamp your planner if the information is there. You will not leave the classroom
without a stamp, so make sure you are writing in your planner every day.
Absences
If you miss class for any reason, any work must be made up, including notes, data, homework, etc. Before asking me about what we did or asking for makeup work, please do the following:
If after checking all these sources you are still lost as to what to do, please see me before or after class.
Please note that since biology is on a block schedule, missing class really means missing 2 class periods. I cannot stress enough how important it is to not miss class!
Using the Bathroom/Getting a Drink
You are expected to use the bathroom and get a drink before entering the classroom. You are welcome to bring a water bottle with you to class, so you should not have to be dismissed to get a drink. Go to the bathroom before you get to class, but keep in mind that if you are tardy for any reason, you are still tardy. The 5 minutes allotted between classes is a PASSING period – not a SOCIALIZING period. There are only two exceptions:

If you miss class for any reason, any work must be made up, including notes, data, homework, etc. Before asking me about what we did or asking for makeup work, please do the following:
- Check with a friend – every student should have the same notes on the same pages every day. Copy the notes and get information about any assignments
- Check my notebook – I usually keep my own notebook with all the information needed. It’s not always updated every day, but feel free to check.
- Check Edmodo – All assignments will be posted on Edmodo along with a short description of what we did that day.

- You may ask to use the bathroom at the two 30 minute marks during class – only one student will be allowed to go during each class period. If you are habitually using the bathroom or causing any disturbances while outside of class, you will lose your bathroom privileges for the remainder of the semester.
- You will have a 5 minute break after the first 55 minutes of class – please wait to use the bathroom at that time.
- If you have an emergency outside of the guidelines above, please come see me.
- Once you have received permission to use the bathroom, please use the bathroom pass located by the classroom door.
