Classroom Policies
Discipline Philosophy
One of the best ways to address student misbehavior is to prevent misbehavior from occurring in the first place. It is imperative that students understand what is expected of them in order to know how to behave. To achieve this, I have established a few simple policies. As a student, it is your responsibility to comply with these policies. If you decide not to comply, there will be logical consequences. By enforcing these policies, I promise fairness, consistency, and order in our classroom.
Class Rules
Students will treat others kindly and with respect
Students will keep their tables and areas clean
Students will talk only when permitted
Students will be in their seats with materials ready when the bell rings
Students will attend to personal needs before coming to class
If you CHOOSE to Break a Rule…
1st Incident: Name on board and verbal warning
2nd Incident: Check next to name and stay after class
3rd Incident: Second check, stay after class, parent contact, completion of an action plan
4th Incident: Third check, stay after class, parent contact and referral to administration
Discipline incidents carry over each day until the end of the week. Names and checks will be erased on Fridays. Continued violations, however, will be noted and dealt with appropriately.
Tardy and Late Arrivals
A student is TARDY if he/she is not in the classroom when the bell rings and does NOT have a pass. A student is LATE if he/she arrives after the bell WITH a pass. Tardy and late students are not to disrupt the class. Tardy students are required to sign in on the clipboard located near the door. Late students need to put their pass on my desk. There is no penalty for arriving late with a pass. There is a penalty, however, for arriving tardy to class. A student who is tardy will be required to stay after class until the warning bell sounds for the next class. That gives the student 1 min. to get to their next class. The accumulation of 3 tardies results in 1 unexcused absence. A student may lose academic credit for the course if they accumulate 10 unexcused absences throughout the semester. Students who are habitually tardy will also receive phone calls home and will be referred to administration.
Attendance
Students are expected to be present in class each day. Please try to schedule appointments and vacations outside regular school hours and during school breaks. An excused absence is defined as an absence that is excused by a phone call or note from a parent/guardian. An unexcused absence is defined as an absence without a phone call or note from a parent/guardian. Accumulation of 10 unexcused absences may result in a failing grade or loss of academic credit. Phone calls will be made home every day when you miss class. Students who are habitually absent will be referred to administration.
Academic Honesty
It is expected that students will use genuine, sincere, and fair means for the accomplishment of tests, papers, or projects from which evaluations of progress shall be determined. Students found plagiarizing, copying, or cheating in any way will receive an incomplete for the assignment. The offending students will then be required to re-do the assignment. Subsequent offenses will also involve parent contact and referral to administration, leading to suspension or expulsion. You are also required to have a plagiarism contract on file, signed by you and your parent, acknowledging your understanding of what plagiarism entails and the consequences of participating in plagiarism.
